General Accounting Accountant

Summary of Position

This position is responsible for supporting the Finance Control - General Accounting Supervisor in the following:

•Ensuring the general accounting processes, performed both internally and externally (outsource provider of back office general accounting processing), are completed timely and accurately for the UK&ROI operations (combined turnover circa. GBP300million) and are Sarbanes Oxley compliant. General accounting processes are performed throughout the month with a spike in activity at month end and it is sometimes required to work at weekends.

•Completion of the general accounting processes performed within the EAME operations of the Group’s financial solutions business in Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Norway, Sweden and Finland.

•Completion of various adhoc projects to solve and fix control issues as they arise requiring good analytical and deduction skills.

Overall, the position requires good influencing skills over both internal and external colleagues within a matrix environment.

Accountabilities

This position is accountable for supporting the Finance Control - General Accounting Supervisor in the following:

•Generating and distributing month end close timetables and completing month-end close accounting processes timely and accurately.

•Providing strong support to external outsource provider of back office general accounting processes to obtain answers for exceptions that arise within the process.

•Completing intercompany settlements twice monthly and investigating intercompany differences between the UK&ROI operations and other group companies, ensuring complete, timely and accurate recording of all intercompany transactions.

•Working closely with the UK&ROI controller to ensure month end reconciliations are completed timely and accurately; reconciling items are appropriately investigated and actioned. In addition, provide direct input in various adhoc projects that require understanding and fixing control issues that arise; thereby developing strong analytical and deduction skills.

•Completing annual 10Ks and Tax reporting for Corporate US timely and accurately; developing good financial understanding to ensure disclosures within these corporate reports are valid.

•Liaising with internal and external audit to resolve any issues and queries.

Business Experience/Educational Background

Essential

•Knowledge of the general accounting processes within a large business and experience of working with off-shore outsource provider and within an shared service environment;

•Good SAP skills – ability to utilize general functionality of SAP and keen to develop ability to extract raw data within SAP as required when working on adhoc projects;

•Good Microsoft Excel skills (Pivot tables; Filters; formulas);

•Ability to work under own initiative; passionate with an inherent sense of curiosity;

•Keen to obtain a professional qualification ACCA or CIMA; training and assistance given.

Key Challenges

•Meeting various deadlines; specifically those at month-end to ensure timely and accurate closure of financial books;

•Identifying and implementing process improvements to ensure effective and efficient processing activities, Sarbanes Oxley compliant;

•Working within a matrix environment where colleagues may not be directly managed by the SSC General Accounting function.

•Participating in adhoc projects to fix control exceptions; requires lateral thinking.
