INTRODUCTION

The role of the Draughtsperson is to work within a team of engineers designing and developing new truck-mounted road sweeping products at the Dorking factory.

Developing the vehicles, which range from 7.5 to >18 tonnes laden, is controlled entirely from Dorking New Products department, requiring each team member to undertake projects in many different disciplines.

To ensure the smooth running of the SolidWorks/DBWorks software used by Engineering


MAIN JOB FUNCTIONS

· To undertake the design and development of specific aspects of the road sweeper as required by the machine specification and directed by the Team Manager and completing projects to time and budget.

· To liaise regularly and effectively with other members of the team to ensure a cohesive overall design.

· To liaise regularly and effectively with other department members, to solve problems they may encounter, and proffer technical assistance when it is asked.

· To produce SolidWorks CAD schemes and from them produce quality 2-D drawings to the standard required by the company.

· To produce and maintain accurate Bills of Material to the standard required by the company.

· To compile and issue Engineering Change Notes to ensure timely introduction of new parts and seamless changes to existing parts, with the minimum effect on integration, cost, and disturbance to production manufacture and build.

· To supervise the prototyping/testing of new components that have been designed by me under representative conditions.

· To monitor continuously the cost effectiveness of designs and components to ensure that within the constraints of technical excellence and machine longevity and direct costs minimised.
