| Description |
Our client based in Cornwall are internationally recognised as a market-leading designer and manufacturer of high performance antennas, precision microwave components and test and measurement products operating between frequencies of 1 to 170GHz. They are looking for an RF Design Engineer to be based in Cornwall.
The main purpose of the job involves:
To provide creative and practical input into the design of guided wave and transmission line products from 1 GHz to 170 GHz.
Pre-requisites:
Degree-level qualification in RF or Communications Engineering/Physics or equivalent. In addition, a minimum of 3 years' design experience, ideally in a commercial environment.
Key responsibilities:
•Design: Assess Customer requirements, develop creative and innovative solutions, follow design through manufacturing process concluding with Customer acceptance of the end product.
•Theory: to have a good understanding of guided wave and transmission line theory; also to have an understanding of antenna theory and design.
•Modelling: electromagnetic modelling and simulation using HFSS, Mathcad, Mican Microwave Wizard and Excel or similar.
•Manufacturing: to have an appreciation of an operational manufacturing process, including: machining, EDM, braze, weld and plating.
•Test: to be familiar with microwave test equipment, specifically Vector Network Analysers
•Liaise: to work with other business functions, namely Sales Engineers, Machine Shop, Fitting Shop and Microwave Laboratory, to provide commercially viable solutions.
You must be a self-starter, motivated to work independently, showing initiative. You should also be willing to work as part of a team and assist colleagues as required. To be successful in the role you should have good communication skills, verbal and written, with the ability to represent the client professionally in discussions and meetings with Customers and Suppliers. Good technical report writing and presentation skills are required.
You must be computer literate and familiar with the use of CAD tools, as well as the MS Office suite of tools: Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook etc.
