Description		Our CLIENT is a leading supplier of satellites and space related systems to the European Space Agency. They are seeking to fill the vacancy for a Ground Systems Engineering Manager to be based at their Portsmouth site. Job Outline: The Group Manager will lead an established team of Ground Systems experts undertaking a range of tasks within the Galileo Ground Control Segment (GCS) and other programmes. The position is based at our Client�s Portsmouth site reporting to the Head of Navigation & Radar Engineering in the Earth Observation, Navigation & Science division. The Group Manager is primarily responsible for the development and maintenance of the department s Ground System engineering expertise and capability. The role will also include ownership and responsibility for the realisation of the UK Business Unit s Ground Systems strategy. The Group Manager will develop and maintain best practice engineering processes within the group and mentor and coach other members of staff. They will also be responsible for assuring the quality of engineering activities within their group and contribute to the wider management of the business unit through the leadership and review of projects, proposals and improvement programmes. Within the division s matrix organisation they will be responsible for the provision of engineering resources to projects, generate work load estimates and manage departmental budgets. Key to success in this position will be excellent people management skills with strong emphasis on career development, skills development and performance management. The position requires candidates with a background in satellite and mission control systems, he/she should be self-motivated and with good communication skills (the primary language is English but additional languages, e.g. French, German, or Italian would be an advantage). In order to deal with all aspects of the Ground Systems he/she shall have a good knowledge and experience in some or all of the following: � design of satellite control systems � management of subcontractors developing ground segment elements � development of software-intensive systems � integration and test of ground-based systems, � satellite operations The position requires management of a multi-disciplinary engineering team and also demands considerable interaction with external customers, co-contractors and sub-contractors. The nature of the work would entail an element of overseas travel to other Companies and Institutions around Europe representing our Client at the highest levels.
