Description Full Job Spec:
Based in Northamptonshire, an internationally respected automotive tier one supplier is seeking an HSE professional to fulfil a short-term, 3 month contract which will involve responsibility for over 600 people on 3 sites.

Candidates must have extensive experience of health, safety and environmental legislation gained within the manufacturing/engineering industry. This would include knowledge of ISO14001 and OHSAS18001 (BS8800) quality systems and the Eco-Management Audit Scheme (EMAS).

Ideally you will have experience of implementing these systems within a manufacturing environment and will have experience of multi-site operation.

Purpose of Job:
• The main purpose is to co-ordinate the HSE functions within the business and act as a competent person and facilitator to assist the business to meet performance targets in these respective areas.
• To liaise with nominated site based HSE contacts to ensure appropriate policies, procedures, training and systems are in place to enable the business to manage its legal responsibilities and meet agreed performance and improvement targets
• To provide reports, recommendations and facilitate training in HSE.
• To liaise with external regulatory bodies.

Duties:
• Identify and define standards and regulations and facilitate appropriate policies, procedures and work practices to meet those requirements, including ISO14001, the Eco-Management Audit Scheme (EMAS) and OHSAS 18001 (BS8800) Safety Management.
• Ensure that the business activities comply with standards and regulations, audit performance against internal and external standards and assist preparation of Action plans to address issues
• Prepare the business HSE Statement
• Facilitate site improvements through identifying opportunities for improvement and lead or support project team based initiatives
• Investigate major incidents and accidents
• Ensure that key performance indicators for HSE performance are collected and analysed and that appropriate action is taken by the Operational teams to improve performance
• Liaise with enforcement authorities, certification bodies and customers, etc. on matters related to the company’s HS&E performance.
• Audit the effectiveness of the HS&E system and identify areas for improvement.
• Support the operational management teams on specific projects requiring HS&E advice
• Facilitate training in HSE issues
• Monitor legal developments and ensure action plans are in place and the company complies with current legislation
• Review the site environmental aspects & regulations database to ensure that environmental aspects for each site are captured
• Liaise with the company Occupational Health provider on health related issues
• Promote energy / waste minimisation and co-ordinate Environmental Management Programmes

Qualifications:
• NEBOSH or IOSH qualification essential
• Preferred degree in engineering and / or Environmental Risk Management
• Environmental management approved course.
• Environmental System auditing to a recognised standard (e.g. IEMA)
• Ideally also Quality System auditing for TS2 to an approved course (e.g. Industry Forum)
• Competent trainer and / or group facilitator
• Basic project management

Experience:
• Quality or environmental system auditing
• Experience of ISO 14001 / EMAS implementation and management
• Implemented and managed quality systems
• Worked in manufacturing and/or engineering business
