JOB SPECIFICATION

Electrical and Electromagnetic Compatibility

The role is responsible for the safe and effective conduct of specific test and evaluation tasks relating to military aircraft, weapons and vehicles within the project teams. E&EMC assessments encompass the EMC, Integrity of electrical power generation and distribution systems and armament electrical safety disciplines. Line Management and Performance Development Management for the role is provided by the Capability Leader for E&EMC. The evaluator/trials officer will be responsible to the Project and Technical Manager for project deliverables for each project to which they are allocated.

Key Accountabilities
E&EMC evaluations encompass the following, with respect to new aircraft types and for the impact of modifications to in-service aircraft:

• EMC of aircraft’s electrical, electronic and armament systems with respect to the aircraft’s self generated Radio Frequency (RF) environment and the external RF environment.
• Electrical integrity of electrical power generation, control and distribution systems to ensure that the requirements of aircraft design standards have been met.
• Armament electrical safety of armament control systems, and systems incorporating electro explosives devices, to ensure that the requirements of aircraft design standards have been met.
• Principle activities in the conduct of an evaluation are to capture the customer’s E&EMC requirements, provide E&EMC input to bids to meet these requirements, establish the evaluation strategy, define instrumentation and test facility requirements; aircraft build standards and role equipment configuration requirements.
• Also to prepare a trials instruction (TI) and trials risk assessment (TRA), test briefs, direct the evaluation in accordance with the project management plan; analyse and interpret data and derive conclusions and Release to Service recommendations, to be written in a technical/customer report.
• Evaluators who have gained the status of Trials Officer are authorised to direct trials and issue test briefs for E&EMC practical tests to be conducted on aircraft in accordance with the Company Trials Technical Approval Lists, TI/TRA and MP. Practical tests may require detachments within the UK and abroad.

Professional Capabilities/Competencies

• The candidate will preferably be educated to Degree level (B Eng/M Eng or equivalent) with respect to either Electrical/Electronic Engineering or EMC. Alternatively, HND and HNC qualified with additional professional experience.
• Be computer literate.
