This business design specialist parts of heavy duty vehicles which includes structural castings, 8-20 ml fabrications and some machined components. They are looking to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer with experience in a 3D package and some background in carrying out mechanical engineering calculations.

CANDIDATE
The business are looking for someone with:

• Minimum HNC in Mechanical Engineering
• If you are a graduate you will need three years post graduate experience
• Some experience in mechanical engineering calculations, these include load calculations and free body calculations
• Some experience carrying out FEA work would be a bonus
• You should have experience in 3D design and 2D detailing off either structural castings, heavy fabrications or machined components

ROLE

• 50-70% design, creating 3D models and manufacturing drawings for components such as air springs, dampers and other structural castings

• Some concept design - an example would be a client wants a system that performs as well as a previous design but you have less space to work with so you will try to reduce the weight/number of components in the design without compromising on performance.

• Carrying out FEA work on the system to see how the components perform under stress and strain

• Being the sole point of contact for customers during a project. The business does not manufacture parts themselves so you will be in contact with suppliers to ensure projects are running to schedule

• Carrying out mechanical engineering calculations such as loads, free body calculations and a bit of stress and strain on components
