| Description |
Applications Engineer
We are supporting a global, diverse technology leader and the World's largest and most successful engine company. Our client leads the field in the design and manufacture of high-performance engines. Their continuous development programme, dedicated to furthering engine design allows them to offer one of the most advanced and comprehensive ranges of purpose-built diesel engines available today.
Staying ahead in a rapidly changing world is vital and to achieve this they need ambitious, talented individuals who have the potential to create, challenge, and deliver global objectives. They are committed to an expansion programme throughout 2007 and beyond that includes the acquisition of a wide range of engineering specialists within: Mechanical Engineering, CAE, Performance & Emissions, Electronics, Global Engine Development and Aftertreatment.
The Role:
Responsible for leading Tier 4 Emission System Integration with Machine and Industrial Engine Product Groups for engine applications. This will require coordination of ‘Voice of the Customer’ and ‘Voice of the Business’ for the specific application whilst providing project leadership and technical direction in the design, development, integration and validation of a Tier 4 Engine Emissions Solution
Responsible for executing the NPI process to meet customer needs for performance, emissions, reliability and durability including sign-off of the aftertreatment system in the customer application. This will require coordination of activities with the Emissions System Integration Teams based in the UK and the US. The Emissions System Integration team will be comprised of technical specialists and design support personnel to help meet Tier 4 program deadlines, NPI process requirements, product cost targets and quality requirements (QCLDM)
You will be working in close coordination with the current Engine Applications teams who will retain the overall commercial relationship with their customers. It is expected that the customer will see you as the expert for Aftertreatment system solutions. Because of this, excellent customer interface skills and customer focus is a must. It is expected that customers will challenge every aspect of this technology and the need for our very strict design and validation standards so the Applications Engineer will need to be able to respond to these challenges
This is an externally facing position that will require travel to the customer facilities to understand and document customer requirements and provide emissions solutions expertise. Also, for key parts of the customer development program (machine builds, synergy events) this may require spending time with the design teams at the customer site
Requirements:
4 year Engineering Degree, preferably Mechanical or Equivalent Experience
Minimum of 4 years Engine and/or Aftertreatment design and development experience/research
6-Sigma Black Belt Experience
Self-starter with experience of interfacing skills with internal and external customers
Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely in writing and presentations with suppliers and external customers
Demonstrated ability to interact effectively in multi-disciplined, multi-cultural CPPD team environment consisting of designers, industrial designers, test and validation engineers, purchasing, product support, and product safety representatives
Proven analytical and problem-solving skills
Willingness to travel including working periods at various sites
