Description My client is looking for an Engineering Manager to be responsible for the successful hardware and software design of all system contracts, all hardware and software application engineers, commissioning of systems in the field, company engineering standards and systems engineering.

To plan, assign and supervise engineering personnel for all company contracts/projects and tasks in addition to own “hands on” project design responsibilities. As Engineering Manager you will consider and make recommendations for improvements and/or changes in company engineering procedures and be responsible for progressive engineering standards and product development to enable the company to operate effectively and competitively in existing and new markets.
The Engineering Manager will report directly to the Managing Director.

REQUIREMENTS:-
Minimum requirement Degree Standard in Electrical and/or Electronic Engineering or related disciplines with at least 8 years proven experience in system design engineering that embraces both hardware and software applications.

RESPONSIBILITIES:-
To develop application knowledge in power electronics, analogue/digital control techniques, microprocessor techniques, DC and AC motor technology, measurement/control techniques and design of software associated with PLC and/or microcomputers operating in real time.
To develop a thorough understanding of variable speed/torque and servo drives, their industrial application, and the relevant design and safety standards to which they apply.
To liaise with customers on a technical level to clarify specification needs and ensure customer satisfaction whilst being aware of company commercial goals.
To liaise with inter-departmental and corporate engineers as necessary to ensure project suitability to application and its eventual success.
To design and develop application programs for the accurate high speed control of ac/dc based drive systems.
To design and develop suitable operator interfaces for various industrial machine control applications.
To generate electrical schematic diagrams, single line control diagram, ac/dc distribution diagrams, mechanical layout drawings, purchase (parts) list etc. for the smooth progress of system production.
To develop and write PLC code for the correct system operation of the machine being controlled.
To calculate/record any hardware set-ups required within the system design, and present to test engineer(s) for the successful testing of the system.
To ensure any software set-ups are calculated and presented to test engineer(s) for the satisfactory testing of the system.
To check/authorise any production/test/start-up (site) modifications.
To prepare any necessary test procedures for the system equipment.
To provide relevant documentation for the field service personnel to assist in the smooth start-up of projects on site.
To provide the necessary technical documentation for inclusion in the customers instruction and maintenance manuals.
To ensure all technical documentation, records, modifications etc. are maintained current with "as installed" system condition.
To assist with the preparation of tenders, presentations, etc. as and when required.
To liaise with major vendors as necessary to determine technical suitability of product selection.

STANDARDS
Satisfactory performance will be deemed to have been achieved when:
a) Engineering design is completed on time for at least 95% of all projects.
b) Parts lists are issued to purchasing at least 4 weeks prior to manufacturing start date.
c) Preliminary design drawings are customer approved on all projects allocated.
d) Customer documentation is completed and issued with delivery for at least 90% of all projects.
e) Test conclusions are authorised and signed off on all projects allocated.
f) Commercial margins are maintained or justified on 100% of all projects.
