Our client produces engine cooling, air conditioning and heating systems for a wide range of vehicles and industrial applications and they are currently looking for a Technical Manager to manage the Engineering Department ensuring that the new product design and development is effectively achieved together with all upgrades to existing products and in addition to provide technical/ engineering support as required to ensure the companies continued commercial success reporting to the Technical Director.
Key Responsibilities:
•Deliver within the specific areas of engineering and technical support, the companies objectives in respect of the introduction of new products/ designs and the required upgrades to existing products creating clear priorities and objectives for the engineering department.
•Constantly ensure that all engineering staff are provided with appropriate technical support and guidance and initiate training and development strategies where required
•Develop new product requirements, advise and introduce changes to meet new legislation (emissions, noise, climate etc) and new market opportunities e.g. electric vehicles
•Prepare budgets and cost justifications where required to enable the Managing Director to make effective decisions about the current and future business
•Ensure that all operations within his/ her area of responsibility are undertaken in accordance with current and future legislation and restablished company procedures e.g. ISO9001: 2000 QA System
•Provide expert advice on heat transfer and fluid dynamics to customers and internal staff in relations to heat exchanger design as applied to vehicle cooling and HVAC systems
Educational Background/ Qualifications - Essential: Degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline, this must include knowledge of heat transfer and fluid dynamics and clear evidence of a desire to enhance skills and knowledge.
Experience - Essential: Successful management of a technical department within a comparable production environment – fabrication of ferrous/ non ferrous machining, joining and assembly. Experience of new product design and development especially with components and systems that involve heat transfer e.g. radiators, charge coolers and heat exchangers. Knowledge of vehicle air conditioning systems. Exposure to hydraulics as used in power drives and low voltage DC for powering/ controlling automotive systems. Knowledge of military projects and the certification and test standards e.g. EMI/ RFI. Use of analytical tools FMEA/ CFD/ FEA and understanding the requirements of ISO9001. Experienced and capable user of AutoCAD 2D drawing and 3D modelling (solid edge or equivalent) together with MS Office/ Outlook/ Project.

Disposition/ Personality: Assertive and co-operative yet empathetic, high achievement drive, willing to question procedures and systems and a pragmatic ‘hands on' approach.
