Our client is a Shipbuilding Facility based in Portsmouth for a Senior Structural Engineer for a permanent position.

Salary is £40k to £43k per annum + 25 days holiday, 4 day week, & contributory pension.

Candidates need to be from a Shipbuilding background or relevant Marine background. Candidates must have specialist structures background.

Main Duties and Responsibilities Include:

 To undertake the structural design of ships and related products in accordance with relevant design standards and procedures to comply with ship technical specifications.
 To ensure that designs carry low technical risks, are safe to operate and are producible.
 To monitor budgets and progress of projects worked on against agreed programmes and deadlines.
 To obtain feedback on materials/ structures defects, due to design deficiencies and or otherwise and ensure lessons learnt are recorded for future ship designs.
 To liaise with and provide support to other internal departments.

Requirements:

 Be educated to degree level in Naval Architecture or a similar discipline.
 Have experience in undertaking ship design, including the structural aspect of ship design and experience of large vessel ship construction.
 Have knowledge of the requirements of Classification Societies.
 Experience in the use of the LR SSC software, MATHCAD and AutoCAD would be ideal.
 Have good working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite
 Be a good communicator both verbally and in writing and have excellent interpersonal skills.
 Be able to work as part of the team or individually.
