NEAR CARDIFF

We are seeking an experienced Sensor Technology Engineer to join a small and friendly Technology Department based at offices near Cardiff in South Wales. This company is a world leader in the design, development and manufacture of precision, innovative downhole electromechanical data acquisition instrumentation for the worldwide oil and gas industry. Their products are used to measure flow, pressure, temperature and other parameters within the well bore.

As Sensor Technology Engineer you will develop and identify sensing technology to enhance existing products and develop new sensing tools. In addition you will provide support for the existing product range and to provide fast turnaround solutions to meet and solve client requirement and problems.

You will be involved in conceptual design of sensors to internal and client specifications, evaluation and selection of appropriate technologies, identification of technology applicable to the product and liaison with external research institutions as well as liaising with clients to understand in depth their requirements and translate these into viable Technical Proposal and Specifications.

The Sensor Technology Engineer will be require to integrate Sensor Technology into the company’s products, defining the interface to the electronic and mechanical systems, testing Sensors and preparing drawing and documenting for manufacturing.

Qualified to degree level in Physics – ideally MSc or PhD, you should have a good understanding of sensing technologies and the ability to apply them in practical applications. To succeed as Sensor Technology Engineer you should have experience of the project management of concurrent, multiple projects including MS Project, with good problem solving/concept design skills (Mech or Elec) and an understanding and interest in all aspects of engineering.

Experience is also required of high temperature/high pressure design and you should have wide ranging and diverse technical knowledge and empathy, as well as excellent written English and verbal communication skills.

You will need the ability to ‘think’, identify issues and offer solutions and to work to challenging deadlines in a fast changing, high pressure environment. You must be able to demonstrate a desire to help clients achieve the best from the products as well as a complete commitment to quality and exemplary customer service.
