Austin Fraser is the exclusive Consultancy to appoint a Design Engineer to work on Composite Structures for a cutting edge composites manufacturer on the south coast. The company has a substantial composites design department taking composites technology from prototyping and pre-production through to full production. As a Design Engineer you will play an integral part of a team developing better, faster, more capable and agile composites manufacturing techniques for tomorrow’s technology.

The composites are all large scale, pre-preg components manufactured at aerospace standards, but eventually at automotive rates of production. As Design Engineer you will have sufficient expertise to:

-Lead development of current product and future technology
-Developing new design solutions for future products
-Preliminary structural design and process evaluation
-Analysis of potential critical failure modes
-Preparing design specifications
-Supervision of tests and analysis of test data to verify designs
-Detail component design and validation

Qualifications and work experience

-Minimum degree in mechanical /structural design within composites
-Engineering management experience advantage
-Well-rounded engineering knowledge
-Proven track record of creative approach and innovation
-Good understanding of structures and composites (basic FEA advantage)
-Excellent analytical skills, awareness of Root Cause Analysis/D-FMECA Techniques
-High standard of technical documentation
-Excellent communication and time management


You will be educated to degree level and have more than 3 years experience as a Design Engineer for composites technology.

To ensure product quality and continuous improvement the company utilise six sigma methodology to evaluate performance through statistical analysis. Ideally you will be trained or have accreditation to green or black belt level or be familiar with other statistical lean methods.
