Main Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities associated with a “Strategic Buying” role;
Manage Supplier relationships, overall responsibility Direct & Indirect spend; for the procurement of Raw Materials, Components, Factored items, Third Party Services, Capital Equipment, Tooling, Consumables, Office Equipment, Services, utilities, etc. This will necessitate direct contact with suppliers.
Negotiate purchase agreements; review existing supply agreements and set up new supply agreements, and ensure we optimise commercial terms. Review Terms & Conditions of purchase to ensure appropriate protection for the business.
Act as the company “Cost Reduction Champion” for spend, identify & deliver cost down opportunities with incumbent and new suppliers and ensure this is not to the detriment of quality, service and other performance metrics.
Stock & Materials Management; in conjunction with the Works Director; responsible for Inventory Turns, inventory accuracy, Stock-takes, cycle counting, capital employed in inventory, and stock rotation for all Raw materials and bought out items.
In conjunction with the Production Planner & Production Management; utilise the businesses information systems and personal computer skills to ensure effective supply and control of materials to enable production personnel to achieve planned work and associated KPIs (% achievement of plan, OTDIF, First Pick Availability, etc).
Placing of orders on suppliers for all Direct spend, production consumables, and indirect spend, and ensure all purchase orders are processed and approved using the internal purchase requisition system.
Responsible for providing production personnel with accurate information relating to material availability and delivery dates. Also, to assist in resolving general queries.
Administration of all documentation associated with receipts (delivery notes, certificates of conformity, etc.), ensuring that all GRNs are generated and items are booked on to Syspro stock (current ERP system). Responsible for invoice analysis and approval.
In conjunction with the Finance department, checking invoices against orders / delivery notes prior to approval / sign-off by functional Directors.
Assist the Finance Manager in ensuring accurate data is maintained relating to “current cost” data.
Review current supplier base (approx 400 live) and identify opportunities for supplier rationalisation / simplification.
Deployment of global sourcing techniques for the identification, capability evaluation, selection, and management of new suppliers.
Arrange transportation for shipments from foreign suppliers, responsible for management of associated cost, dealing with customs, import duties and similar.
Business continuity; review dependency on specific suppliers and identify / establish appropriate contingency plans.
In conjunction with the Technical Director and his staff, review purchase specifications.
Identify & deliver consignment stock, cash flow, & capital employed improvement opportunities.
Monitor, advise and manage exchange risk associated with foreign currency purchases.
If appropriate, support the Directors in conducting “Make or Buy” analysis.
Responsible for all aspects of supplier performance and associated KPIs (OTD, Right First Time in Full, non-conformance, etc).
In conjunction with the Directors and the Finance Manager, assist in the preparation of annual budgets.
In conjunction with Manufacturing Supervision, responsible for providing sales personnel with accurate information relating to product availability & delivery dates. Also, to assist in resolving general queries.
Producing a range of management reports for the Senior Management Team.
In conjunction with the Directors, carry out investment appraisal & payback on investment in tooling and capital equipment.
Responsible for the Goods-In V.N.A. Warehouse and associated personnel.
Recording of all packaging materials purchased / used to facilitate packaging waste returns.
Any other duties deemed necessary or work of a higher priority.
Background
Considerable experience from within an appropriate Polymer processing environment.
Ideally from a formal engineering background / time served apprentice – HNC or HND. As a minimum, must be able to demonstrate a solid engineering acumen.
Ideally from a 1st or 2nd Tier environment within; Automotive, Aerospace or Engineering manufacturing business. Must be able to demonstrate a good understanding of automotive purchasing practice and where appropriate be able to apply it to the supply chain.
Must be comfortable in a fast paced, rapidly changing environment. Able to operate in both structures and informal systems, but will be capable of establishing; structures, systems and processes as required.
Financially astute, able to; evaluate, prepare, present, implement and deliver procurement business plans.
Will be driven and dynamic (requires energy) with good interpersonal skills, able to communicate at all levels.
Must be able to demonstrate a track record of achievement in a similar role.
Will hold a full driving licence and passport, must be willing to travel overseas as and when required (4-8 weeks/year maximum).
