Mechanical Design Engineers :

World class Defence Organisation based in Stevenage, Hertfordshire is currently looking to recruit 3 Mechanical Design Engineers.

The role is to undertake a full range of engineering activities in line with all relevant process, quality and other requirements, supplying specialist advice and support across projects for Test equipment, packaging and tooling design. Pro-Engineer experience ideal - possibly Solidworks.

The contract is initially for 6 months (ongoing after). The hourly rate is £31 per hour.

You do not need to hold current SC Security Clearance; however you must be eligible to be cleared to this level.

Mechanical Design Engineers Job Description:

Typical Responsibilities:

1. Evaluate technical issues in order to develop proposals for investigations and/or solutions
2. Carry out a full range of technical analyses and investigations, including evaluation and selection of technical options, and prepare reports with suggested recommendations to support the resolution of problems and the improvement of engineering capability.
3. Prepare a full range of specifications, develop designs in line with specifications and all quality and technical standards, and carry out design appraisals in assigned areas to ensure all standards are maintained.
4. Carry out investigations into a full range of problems, issues or developments and develop and prepare solutions, individually or as a member of a project team.
5. Define testing approaches and specify tests in assigned/specialist area(s) and evaluate and make recommendations based on results, including making suggestions to improve test/diagnosis processes.
6. Act as the main point of contact with customers (internal and external) and/or suppliers and collaborators in assigned areas on engineering matters, to resolve a full range of problems and issues and to maintain awareness in both parties of priorities and objectives.
7. Lead, for assigned programmes, the production of documentation to support the in-service use of products.
8. Make engineering decisions within own sphere of responsibility and delegated authority.

Skills / Experience:

* Significant practical experience and/or suitable vocational qualification
* Pro-Engineer experience (possibly Solidworks if not)
* Experience across all aspects of a single engineering area/domain and an appreciation of other areas
* Able to work from first principles
* Specialist knowledge in at least one area of Test equipment, packaging and tooling;
* Good working experiences in more than one phase of the engineering life cycle, with sufficient experience of the total life cycle to ensure a good understanding of adjacent phases and through-life engineering issues
* Capable of managing projects/work packages
* Substantial analytical and problem solving skills
* Full understanding of relevant engineering and quality standards
