Mechanical Design Engineer

Mechanical engineer wanted to solve complex scientific instrumentation challenges

Desire to design, project manage, build, test and install complex scientific instrument systems to research facilities around the world.

Due to continuing growth, our client is looking to recruit an experienced mechanical engineer to complement our engineering team.

Must have skills/experience:

• Technical knowledge of mechanical engineering as applied to beamline systems (or similar industry such as Space, lithography etc…), including UHV, small precision mechanisms, support structures and services
• Deeper knowledge in at least one of these areas is required
• Ability to perform engineering calculations such as basic stress and thermal analysis
• Production of cost effective solutions based on a sound understanding and interpretation of engineering requirements from customer requirements and functional specifications
• 3D cad, preferably Solid Edge but cross training can be provided
• Wide experience of design and drawing and knowledge of drawing standards
• Preparation of complete and unambiguous manufacturing information packages (Parts Lists, Bills of Materials, Routings, Work Order information)
• Awareness of Health and Safety and Product Regulatory requirements and working within as ISO 9001 Quality System

Summary of duties:

The job is based at the factory in Oxford where daily duties include; preparation of design specifications and cost analysis for internal use and tender proposals, concept and detailed design of instrumentation systems, production of work packages for procurement and manufacturing, liaison with engineers and production technicians during design, manufacturing, assembly, test, commissioning and installation.
