Senior Civil Engineer – Drainage
We have an exciting opportunity within the Capita Symonds Civil Engineering team for a Senior Civil Engineer - Drainage to work on a number of high profile exciting infrastructure projects.
You will be joining the successful civil engineering team who are currently providing design services on a variety of major infrastructure projects in the highway, rail and tunnelling sectors within the UK as well as internationally. You will bring your experience in the design of road and / or rail related infrastructure projects and develop your career within a progressive and supportive environment.
You will be responsible for managing design teams and mentoring junior staff while driving the business unit forward.
Civil engineering related degree, BEng level minimum or equivalent
be a Chartered Civil Engineer
be a Member of ICE / IHT
have experience of the design of civil engineering, and highway design
Demonstrate technical experience in the detailed design of drainage including:
Experience in using the hydraulic calculations with detailed the HA's DMRB Vol. 4 (drainage)
Experience in catchment, network, sub surface / pavement drainage, attenuation, culvert, and pollution control design methods and procedures
Understanding of principles of the HAWRAT (Highways Agency's Water Risk Assessment Tool) for outfall design and assessment
Understanding of the various Greenfield runoff assessment methods
Knowledge of typical ecological mitigation measures
MicroDrainage WinDES module including System 1, Source Control, Simulation, etc.
Ability in AutoCAD (for design purposes)
Experience in the use of SUDS
Knowledgeable of the design requirements detailed in Sewers for Adoption
Knowledgeable of FEH and FSR assessment methods
Ability to develop Flood Risk Assessments and Surface Water Strategies
Experience with dealing with approving bodies such as the Environment Agency and Water Authorities
Good working knowledge of CDM requirements
Experience of planning design work and managing programme and budgets for design tasks.
Team player with good interpersonal skills
Full UK driving licence.
Experience of working with Contractors on design and build projects
Experience of the Highway Agency / DMRB design and technical approval processes
Understanding of NR and / or LUL design and technical approval processes
Experience of operating within quality management procedures.
be proactive in the mentoring and training of less experienced Engineers
Project Management experience
The successful candidate will be expected to lead and develop teams of Graduates, Engineers and Technicians in preparing design solutions for civil engineering schemes at preliminary, tender, and detailed design stages of both medium and large projects.
Undertaking design work in accordance with quality procedures and CDM legislation
Mentoring of junior technical staff
Providing leadership to design teams, including coordination of multi-disciplinary teams, for the delivery of design.
Managing programme and budgets for design work packages
Able to work on own initiative and under pressure, when necessary
Solutions orientated
Good communicator at all levels, both orally and in writing
Accuracy and attention to detail
Interested in personal technical development in specific fields
Flexible, enthusiastic and willing to learn, develop and widen experience
