Toolroom Manager (Carbide Progression Tools/Lean)
Toolroom Manager – complex, precision, carbide progression tools - lean manufacturing - Continuous improvement - based Birmingham – salary £40K +
We are looking for a Toolroom Manager who has had experience of complex, precision, carbide progression tools and associated components coupled with lean manufacturing and Continuous improvement experience
Ideally qualified to degree level or equivalent in an Engineering discipline, candidates for the position of Toolroom Manager (Carbide progression tools) should be able to perform under pressure and have decisive leadership skills as well as demonstrable technical experience
Budgetary and purchasing experience will be necessary for the position of Toolroom Manager (Carbide progression tools) and preference will be given to Toolroom Managers with knowledge of relevant presses and equipment and 3D CAD & CAM experience
The role of Toolroom Manager (Carbide progression tools) will be to coordinate all resources within the technical services departments to ensure quality, on time and accurate outputs are achieved
Reporting to the Managing Director, the Toolroom Manager’s day to day duties will include:
o Managing a Toolroom and CAD department of c15 people
o Developing a multi-skilled team
o Ensuring that quality systems and operating procedures are clearly defined and followed
o Helping define the main (KPIs)
o Ensuring resources are manned appropriately during each shift
o Re-deploying labour in the event of absence, machine breakdown etc
o Ensuring good housekeeping and safety working practices are adhered to using 5S.
o Reporting and paperwork such as Quality concerns, T-card system, daily audits etc.
o Daily operational meetings
o Providing detailed production target information.
o Assisting the project team to ensure that new projects/products are successfully launched
o Maintaining an effective working relationship with tool room suppliers and subcontractors
o Carrying out annual appraisals.
o Conducting disciplinary and grievance hearings
o Leading the drive for Change Management and Lean Techniques
o Achieving set targets for New Tooling business
o Maintaining and improving Technical documentation and processes;
o Championing training, mentoring and development for employees
o Delivering tools to provide quality products to customer requirements
The company specialises in the design, build and manufacture of precision press tools and components and supplies parts and expertise services to customers in Telecommunications, Plumbing, IT, Automotive, Aerospace, Medical etc.
To undertake this role, the Toolroom Manager (Carbide progression tools) should be able to communicate effectively at any level and be a team player with good mentoring skills.
Customer and commercial awareness is essential as are excellent problem solving skills with the ability to identify appropriate methods

Off site working may be required with full mileage, travel & subsistence being reimbursed.
