The Role
A challenging role for a professional ecologist in a fast developing multi-disciplinary ecology
team which will suit a self-motivated, knowledgeable and enthusiastic person with a
genuine interest in ecology and has a proven track record in ecological consultancy.
The role offers the potential to work on a varied range of projects from regeneration and
education projects, EIAs and highways to countryside management and public rights of way
for a range of public sector and private clients. Their portfolio of work is very varied covering
a range of locations across the country, as they are delivering projects from the Lake District
to the Midlands alongside our local commitments around Lancashire.
Responsibilities
They have a number of significant projects that require ecological input, ranging from
undertaking initial Extended Phase 1 Habitat Surveys to more detailed NVC and protected
species surveys. Your advice and recommendations will be communicated to clients
through written reports and verbal communication including mitigation, compensation,
restoration, enhancement, monitoring and management. The role requires a team player
who will be a key point of contact within a larger multidisciplinary consultancy which
provides opportunities for the full integration of ecological considerations into the overall
design process.
Essential Criteria
• Degree or equivalent in ecology or related subject
• Full membership (or eligibility for full membership) of IEEM
• Understanding of Phase 1 Habitat and botanical surveys
• Previous work within a consultancy or similar field
• Excellent report writing and communication skills
• Project management
• Good working knowledge of wildlife and conservation legislation.
Desirable Criteria
• A post‐graduate in ecology or related field
• Knowledge and awareness of planning process and policy
• Broad field ecology expertise and recognition of broad habitats and protected
species presence.
• Understanding of BREEAM and Code for Sustainable Homes Assessments
• Protected species survey licence
