Technical Author

Our client is looking for a talented and self motivated technical writer to join a small but expanding department. You will interface directly with software and test engineers in the R&D department. This is a new role in their R&D group and you will be playing a key part in developing the best video conferencing equipment.


Main duties and responsibilities

You will be required to write:
• Online help for all the networking products
• Technical FAQs and solutions for common support issues
• Release notes, training material and other supporting documentation

You should expect to:
• Liaise with technical authors all over the world
• Produce documents of your own
• Update documents produced by others

Candidate profile
• Excellent writing skills
• Ability to work alone and as part of a team
• Analytical and communication skills and the ability to research and distil information
• Awareness of quality and usability issues relating to software development
• Professional and flexible approach to projects including awareness of commercial aspects, budgets, timescales and quality
• Common sense, a quick learner

Mandatory skills and experience

• An excellent Degree qualification in or associated with language or writing, coupled with a technical focus/ interest that will lead towards day to day documentation activities.
• Experience as a technical author or writer within a software – hardware products based environment
• A working knowledge of most of the following: HTML, Framemaker, Robohelp, Acrobat and Office products
• Ability to write in a clear, concise and consistent style – this will be demonstrated in your CV layout and other online evidence with excellent written English
• Ability to develop documentation for non-English readers, awareness of the issues this entails
