Electronics Buyer
Highly motivated experienced Electronics Buyer required with excellent communication and negotiating skills.
Principal Responsibilities – Electronics Buyer – To manage the purchasing process for stock and non stock items in an accurate and cost effective and timely manner.
To purchase the electronic components for Printed Circuit Boards and bare boards. This will involve working alongside the Production Planners who schedule the demands for materials to be purchased. Purchasing demands are generated through the Company’s MRP (Material Requirements Planning) system.

To manage the subcontract service for PCB assembly via the MRP system (Syspro), to meet Production schedules and other ‘internal’ customer requirements.

Place orders with suppliers using Preferred Supplier Lists or individually negotiated contracts, ensuring all orders are placed within correct authority levels and are recorded through Syspro, generating Purchase Order Numbers for communication to the originating Department.

To investigate and take corrective action to address discrepancies in deliveries of goods, inaccurate paperwork etc raised by the Finance Department, Stores personnel etc ensuring the rejection of items is matched with refunds, replacements or credit arrangements and all activities are logged to create audit trails using Syspro and other administrative procedures.

To reconcile all documentation for purchases made via Company credit card, ensuring accurate identification of items and pricing.

To identify and suggest new suppliers to the Company where required ie quality issues, unavailability of stock, obsolescence of parts, closure of suppliers, one off new requests etc ensuring a thorough and comprehensive vetting process is undertaken including the suppliers ability to meet DNV/ISO 9001 standards and IPC Class 3 standard (Association Connecting Electronics Industries) and Company procedures.

To undertake visits to existing and new suppliers, accompanied by members or the Quality Department, to discuss requirements, progress issues, assess supplier processes via the appraisal documentation etc.

To ensure system data integrity at all times, updating standard costs and quotations on Syspro on a regular basis. To ensure adherence to and full compliance with all Company and departmental policies including finance authority levels, quality DNV/ISO 9001 and IPC Class 3 standard.

To ensure all purchases fully comply with legislative and Company Health, Safety and Environmental procedures and requirements for equipment and materials including materials data sheets, substitution risk assessments and CE Marking certification and conformance etc

To build and maintain excellent working relations with other internal Departments across the Company including Production, Engineering, Stores, Production Planning and Finance

To take part in annual stocking activities. This will involve close liaison with suppliers to cross check our stocks level against the items purchased. Accurate recording will be required and any discrepancies need to be captured and escalated accordingly. Reports of stocks levels are derived from Syspro.
Dimensions of the Role – Electronics Buyer -
• The Company operates over 12,000 active stock codes.
• Items to be purchased range from small parts resistors, passives and semi’s through to high value capital expenditure non stock items.
• 10 – 30 orders per day to be placed.
• Prices range from £5 - £100,000+ (within authority levels).
• Dealing with suppliers worldwide.
• Purchasing mainly for our UK Head office plus USA and Asia operations.
• Some local travel to suppliers.
• Cover for other buyers when absent.
• Purchasing team comprises: Materials Control Manager + 2 x Buyers.

Qualifications/Knowledge/Experience – Electronics Buyer.
• Proven purchasing experience within manufacturing and in the electronics industry.
• Experience of interpreting datasheets.
• A good working knowledge of electronic component characteristics.
• Experience of Obsolescence management and procurement methods.
• Practical experience of MRP systems, ideally Syspro 6.
• IT literate including MS Office Suite
Ability to interpret mechanical and electrical drawings (when covering for other buyers during periods of absence).
