Salary is commensurate with qualifications/experience
My client is a leading provider of multilingual solutions who seeks a Project Manager who will be responsible for the management of client projects, ensuring that the best obtainable profit margin within the constraints of the quotation is achieved. The successful candidate will also be responsible for organising internal resources such as Desk Top Publication (DTP), selecting translators, other subcontractors according to suitability, availability and cost. Ensuring subcontracted work is conducted in a timely manner to the correct levels of quality.
In particular, the Project Manager has the following key responsibilities:
Analyse and plan prospective projects
Analyse time/risk issues
Define the deliverables and confirm the with Client
Prepare quotations and specify deliverables with the support of the Evaluation team
Define methodology and ensure that the most appropriate tools are used for the project
Define tasks to be allocated to other members of the project team
Assist and provide support to other team members
Ensure that source files are prepared (e.g. layout optimised) and any supporting material (glossaries, translation memory, reference material etc.) in such a way as to allow subcontractors to perform their work efficiently
Identify internal and external linguistic resources to support translation
Select and manage subcontractors (negotiate cost and schedules subject to Vendor Management guidelines)
Review and report on project progress during all stages
Negotiate with the client if additional expenditure or time is required for any changes to the scope (such as additional translation, modification to the layout, or corrections required to the source documentation) before additional expenditure is committed (any changes to be referred to the team coordinator)
Be aware of clients` time-to-market and other commercial issues
Provide coaching to develop staff
Take full responsibility for ensuring that the quality of the deliverables meets or exceed the clients` expectations
Maintain the good reputation of the company in all dealings
Skills and Experience:
Project management skills, to include planning, costing and scheduling
Good organisational and time management skills and the ability to multi-task
Excellent communication and writing skills in English
Good working knowledge of one other language
Attention to detail in order to:
Proofread into mother tongue for accuracy and style
Proofread other languages for completeness and terminological consistency
Check DTP to ensure consistency with original document, and correct import of translation
· Knowledge of and interest in computers and software (word processing, spreadsheets etc)
· In-depth understanding of the company`s project management process (including in-house PM databases)
· Detailed knowledge of Computer Aided Translation (CAT) tools
· Appreciation of DTP software associated with clients` projects
· Ability to decide on most effective methodology and tools
· Awareness of general linguistic and cultural issues and ability to undertake effective commercial research
· Excellent communication skills in order to liaise with the client, team members, sub-contractors and management
· Strong analytical skills
· Commercial awareness, particularly in relation to the income/profitability required from each client to be economically viable
