PHP Software Engineer

International New Media Organisation is recruiting a new software engineer to maintain and develop the software underpinning their hugely popular media platforms. They are looking for a PHP Software Engineer to produce high quality, accurate work across several technologies. Reporting to a Senior Developer the successful candidate will work with journalists, designers, technical and marketing staff on a wide variety of programming tasks.

Key Tasks/Responsibilities include:

- Producing production environment code using frameworks or as stand alone scripts as the task dictates.
- Enhance functionality across a variety of platforms and meet business needs / accessibility standards.
- Advise technical and non-technical staff of new functionality or how to get the most out of the existing facilities.
- Bug-fix legacy code and Develop new functionality.
- Provide technical documentation to describe processes involved for planned developments.
- Provide functional specifications when required for technical and non technical staff to explain usage of functionality

The ideal PHP Software Engineer will be ideally be educated to HND/Degree standard or at least have strong A-Levels in Maths & English together with experience of working with PHP and RDBMS in a production environment. PC literate with good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel in particular as well as a flexible and “can do” attitude combined with a good sense of humour!

Desirable skills include and knowledge of the following: Adobe Flash, Actionscript, OO programming, Perl, C, symfony, SQL and query writing, HTML, CSS, Javascript, XML and other web technologies. A working knowledge of accessibility practices. Experience of working with pre built or open source CMS’s / forums and other technologies is extremely advantageous.
