Thomas Cook Online is the London based business unit that manages all e-commerce activity across the group’s 33 branded travel websites in five European countries. This multi-billion Euro per annum business is now delivering an ambitious change programme to radically alter their online offering from a traditional online retailer to a full online travel agency.
Position: Senior Web Designer
Location: London
Salary: Up to £55k per annum plus 12.5% bonus

ROLE:
Thomas Cook Online are looking for a competent and experienced User Experience / UX / Interaction Designer to manage a web design team and mentor a larger pan EU remote design team. This person will be responsible visual design UI implementation across designated UK and EU sites to cover brand, look & feel as well as own front-end delivery of CSS and HTML templates and components. Operationally this person is responsible for delivery of wireframes and prototypes for core user journeys and pages across designated UK and EU sites.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
a) Assume leadership of visual design UI decision-making on designated UK and EU sites: Ensure designs are brand compliant by being a brand guardian; Create and maintain brand and style guide documentation for designated UK and EU sites and brands, which would include logos, tone of voice, use of imagery, colour palette, typography and styling of key visual assets.
b) Lead the creation and implementation of designs for web pages, key user journeys, emails, mobile sites, online advertising and other projects as required for designated site(s) using Axure and Photoshop: Working with product managers, UX practitioners and front-end designers and web developers to create and refine optimal designs, first through wireframes, then through visual designs; and help obtain business stakeholder buy-in for proposed designs and prototypes.
c) Manage the creation and implementation of templates and components for our site via our CMS; from design - to HTML build - to CSS styling, supporting the front-end designer.
d) Manage small and medium-sized design projects through working with key stakeholders across the business e.g. Marketing Director, Senior Product Managers, Social Media Manager, Merchandising Manager, Email Marketing Manager, Head of UX & Design, Technical Front-End Developers, Production Manager etc. Design graphic components to support email and online promotional purposes.
e) Line manage one visual designer one front-end designer and remotely mentor local European designers.
f) Support for projects/work streams in absence of Head of UX & Design or other creative team members.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS / EXPERIENCE:
a) You must have strong experience of working on transactional / Commerce websites.
b) Extensive User Experience / UX experience to include customer journey and wireframing / templates / components.
c) Recent experience managing a team of designers or front end developers producing visual UI and working HTML UI.
d) Proven track record of using data and customer insight to drive design and first-hand experience with usability testing of designs.
e) Strong design background and portfolio in e-commerce design with a thorough understanding of user interface and navigation, layout, colour, typography.
f) Excellent skills/knowledge in the following: graphic design skills (Photoshop/Illustrator/Indesign); prototyping in Axure; web usability, accessibility and email best practice; and CSS, including CSS3; HTML, including HTML5.
DESIRABLE SKILLS / EXPERIENCE:
a) Travel industry experience with Design background in online travel ideal.
b) Knowledge of SEO and designing for mobile browsers/users.
c) Experience designing marketing emails, online ads and mobile sites / applications.
d) French, German, Dutch language skills.
