Description To arrange maintenance, repair, alteration improvement and minor refurbishment of properties in the local area.

The Applicant:

A recognised qualification, verbal and written competence, a solution focused attitude and a strong customer focus are essential. Proven experience of making sound and timely decisions and of managing time and resources effectively is vital

Main Activities/Tasks

1. Building maintenance, and small new works

a. To survey and record the condition of properties and prepare a 10-year rolling programme of work required by use of in house software programmes

b. To arrange for works as programmed and allowed within budgets to be scheduled, specified estimated and tendered as appropriate. To place and administer contracts, supervise work, check and authorise payments all within delegation limits.

c. To liaise with units in order to balance operational requirements with property management.

d. To monitor and control annual maintenance budgets for the sector concerned.

2. Building works

a. To assist the Head of Property Assets & Facilities Management in following and monitoring procedures laid down by the Chief Executive in executing projects with units, design teams and all specialist advisers.

b. To ensure that accommodation to be provided conforms to agreed MoD Scales and that the military requirements of the project are fully met.

c. To assist in briefing architects, quantity surveyors, structural and service engineers and clerks of works as appropriate.

d. To attend and support on site meetings throughout projects.


3. General

a. To follow the Works Management Manual or any other control document issued by the appropriate service.

b. To maintain the highest professional standards at all times.

c. To ensure that all relevant Building and Health and Safety Legislation is complied with.

d. To maintain good relations with the appropriate departments of Central and Local Government.

e. To be familiar with the method of works funding of the appropriate service department and to liaise with the authorities concerned.

g. To undertake any other duties this from time to time may be reasonably allocated by the Head of Property Assets & Facilities Management.
