Agency/Employer Brampton Stafford
Description SCIENTIST (RESEARCH TEAM) – Cambridge - £Excellent

Research Scientist. Scientist to improve the lifetime of our fluorescent and phosphorescent Ink Jet printed devices by understanding which materials promote long lifetime, and by correlating materials properties and process parameters to device performances. Use the improved understanding in this area, to aid development of new materials, deposition processes and device structures with better performance.

KEY RESULT AREAS

· Design, propose and execute experiments to correlate materials and printing process parameters to device performance
· Design, propose and execute experiments to evaluate the performances and the potential of new materials either fluorescent or phosphorescent emitters or charge transporting systems.
· With the help of modern statistical tools and film characterisation techniques support the identification of failure mechanisms and correlations between materials properties, processing parameters and device performances.
· Communicate effectively with the other Research team members as well as with relevant Technology Development Centre staff to promote internal discussion and strive towards consensus on current best practice.
· Generate Intellectual Property.

MAIN ACTIVITIES

· Design, propose and execute experiments, write batch travellers and analyse device data to identify potentially interesting materials/processes and to optimise their performances.
· Proactively collect relevant data and analyse them to extract statistically significant correlations between device properties and material and process parameters.
· Clearly report findings and formulate recommendations either within or outside the organisation
· Test devices for failure mode and film characterisation. When required participate to fabrication (especially for evaluating new materials, architectures and methodology)
· When required supervise junior members of staff. Clearly communicate any best practice across the organisation.

KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
· Liase with line manager, Devices Group Leader and Ink Jet Task Force Project Leader for research direction and provide feedback to the group.
· Summarise experiment data and present and discuss with colleagues in Research, in the Ink Jet Project Team and with Research Team in Asia.
· Seek advice from experienced Researchers concerning device fabrication, materials characteristics and experimental techniques.
· Provide advice on suitable experimental techniques, result interpretation and experimental set-ups.
· Collaborate and communicate with staff from Research Institutions and Customers.

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED

· PhD or equivalent research experience in Physics or Material Science
· Working knowledge of device analysis and statistical methods.
· Knowledge of polymer systems especially thin film characterisation as well as some experience of printing would be an advantage.
· Good team player with excellent communication skills: able to communicate clearly with people from a variety of technical and non technical backgrounds at different levels of the organisation.
· Proactive and self-motivated can identify, promote and implement relevant research activities, can manage his/her own time
