Role: Manufacturing Engineer - Composites
Salary: £25,000 - £35,000
Location: Bedford
A lead systems integrator and advanced technology company is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer with a Composite Manufacturing background.
Responsibilities for this role will include:
·Generating bids and estimates for Composite Products and Activities, generating manufacturing process estimates, evidential information, manufacturing/installation programmes, cost information and compiling bid responses.
·Composite manufacture/procurement involving make/buy decisions, definition and liaison with QA, Purchasing and Sub Contractors during the Pre-Production and Production Phases of various Composite activities.
·Preparation of specification and procurement of tooling and Capital Equipment of the Production Phases of Composite activities.
·Raising Design Change Requests as required on manufacturing problems.
·Processing non-conformance reports with direct involvement in their control and route cause analysis.
·Monitoring project costs and reporting on spend and outstanding requirements for monthly financial reviews.
·Preparation of Process Planning, Standard Operator Procedures and Bills of Material Documentation to define the manufacturing process during the Pre-Production and Production Phases of Composite Manufacturing activities, with the continual evaluation and improvement of methodologies and processes to input into achieving a cost effective manufacturing environment.
·Assisting in the implementation of various lean manufacturing techniques within the department, which will include 5S, Single Piece Philosophy, Kanban and 7 waste reduction.
For this role the successful applicant will require experience in a similar position working in a Composite Manufacturing environment covering various composite manufacturing methods using short and long batch runs and a diverse product range.You will have a good understanding of Composite Techniques such as Filament Winding and Composite Lay up and experience in working with materials such as carbon fibre, kevlar and silicone.
Also you will have good experience of conducting route cause analysis of production problems and experience in performing various experimental techniques.
A background in Defence / Aerospace/ Automotive manufacturing programmes would be of benefit as would experience in Composite Process Development and an understanding of Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
