Description The Background

A large organisation who are major suppliers to the Defence and Aerospace industry. This is a company who are committed to developing their employees, and create excellence through their people, quality and innovation.

The candidate will be responsible for sourcing within a number of specified projects and commodities. The key responsibilities will include the implementation of commodity strategies, the negotiation of contracts and the ongoing management of strategic supplier relationships.

The Role

Deliver cost savings in line with annual targets, across both projects and commodities.
Manage sourcing activities to ensure most cost effective solutions for each project.
Drive cost down activities within project and sourcing teams
Report Measures of Performance for sourcing contribution to Project/Programme activity.
Establish and agree material cost targets and track actual costs through project/programme development.
To ensure material cost drivers are understood and visible to the programme teams/ engineers.
Create and manage strategic breakthrough strategies for a pre-defined commodity portfolio to support business requirements.
Manage contract negotiations, which will encompass Customer Flow Down, and Price Agreements.
Participate in Commodity Management teams across Enterprise.
Undertake spend analysis, supplier assessment and supplier selection to agreed processes..
Manage relationships with suppliers on behalf of the Company. Some of these relationships may be of strategic significance; others will be of a more tactical nature.
Undertake contract negotiation and ensure appropriate flow-down of terms and conditions.
To ensure prototype and initial production parts are available on time to the programme schedule, realising opportunities to compress lead times and reduce time to market.
Deploy Design to cost methodology into programme team to ensure cost targets are met
Deploy Value Analysis and Value Engineering into programme team
Ensure supplier input to design to achieve most cost effective solution.

The Individual

Qualification – Either gained via experience or ideally a Technical or Professional qualification would be preferred. ie: HNC/Degree Mechanical, Electronic, Aerospace or CIPS.
Industry experience: Open on industrial sector but a knowledge/ experience or aerospace / airworthiness requirements, or similar, is desirable due to the long product development and validation lead times which can affect sourcing decisions.
Candidates with work experience gained in Commodity Management, Supplier Sourcing, Purchasing Management, Buying ( if can demonstrate ability to switch from tactical to strategic thinking), Supplier Development or similar would be considered.
Knowledge of either electrical/ electronic components/systems OR precision mechanical components eg: machined parts, castings, fabrication, rotating parts etc is an essential requirement (depending upon role)
Seasoned and experienced supply chain professional with experience of developing, implementing and managing commodity strategies.
Highly data literate and driven by the facts of a case.
Able to demonstrate strong negotiation skills
Excellent commercial skills with the ability to analyse and negotiate complex supply agreements.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to instil confidence in all stakeholders groups and manage complex commercial relationships.
Able to manage expectations of internal and external customers.
Must be willing to travel to suppliers in UK and globally.
