Description Production Engineer
To liaise with Head of Operations and Production Control Manager to assist in establishing build process and tooling designed to meet the customer's requirements for prototype and production quantities.
To provide information on assembly time when required for build routings, estimates and bids.
To provide constant contact with the Production Team to resolve shop floor queries and issues.
Provide feedback to Design producing where necessary Production Easements, Change Requests, Concessions, Production Permits and Design for Manufacture issues.
To ensure that a culture of quality and excellence is created and maintained within the Production team.
To adhere at all times to the company's policies and other applicable standards and procedures and at all times to professionally represent Ultra CCS.

Background
The Company's Operations department manufacture bespoke military Stabilised Platforms, Surveillance, Gun control, Cameras, Control systems and Weapons Integration equipment in low volume, small batch production basis. Equipment is manufactured from existing, new and prototype drawings often with the incorporation of a high volume of changes; this requires a significant and continuous input from the Production Engineer in both Electrical and Mechanical disciplines.
The Production Engineering position within the Company consists of this position only.

The Purpose of the Role:
To oversee the smooth introduction of new and existing designs of complex electro mechanical equipment from development to manufacture.
To provide a service to the Project and Design teams to ensure that designs are produced to achieve the most cost effective manufacture and procurement methods.
To continually review processes to reduce costs.
To assist the shop floor in designing & providing tooling necessary for manufacture.

Responsibilities/Duties
Raise the most efficient manufacturing build processes and create routings for products as required.
To ensure that all times on routings and build processes are accurate and derived from the estimating documentation.
To propose and implement shop floor layouts to further improve the efficient running of the operations department and to maintain and update such layouts.
Raise Change Requests as necessary, solving manufacturing problems occurring on shop floor.
Review designs during development to ensure suitability & ease for manufacture. As a result of the reviews to define and design manufacturing tools, jigs and fixtures using CAD, arranging their manufacture to ensure timely availability.
Co-ordinating engineering changes to schedule and design criteria .
Attend design reviews giving positive input to influence design for ease of manufacture.
Check and approve first issue drawings prior to release ensuring design for manufacture and reducibility to cost.
Be proactive in continually reviewing manufacturing processes to ensure most efficient cost effective working methods.
Defining Manufacturing Material Handling Processes.
To manage assessment justification and installation of capitol equipment.


In-depth experience in an electro-mechanical production environment.

Low volume batch type manufacture experience gained within a defence equipment manufacturing environment.

Experience of ISO9000 systems or equivalent.



ESSENTIAL
Must be computer literate and familiar with Word and Excel as a minimum.

Able to read and understand electronic schematics and wiring schedules, Mechanical drawings, Mechanical and Electronic BOM (Bills of Material).

A good knowledge of machining, mechanical assembly and wiring techniques.

Able to plan work load to meet delivery dates.
Be able to communicate at all levels from shop floor to management.
Able and willing to achieve dead lines. Prioritise own work, work as an individual and in a team.

Ensure availability to the shop floor of specifications and process instructions.
To create baseline costs from BOM's and assist in the preparation of production Bids and Estimates.
Participate in the continuous improvement process and initiatives.
Liaise with suppliers on ease of manufacture, manufacturing problems, product problems and changes.
