Description A defence engineering company conducting a wide variety of activities for the UK MoD and prime contractors in the UK and overseas.
Core business includes: systems and platform integration, design and manufacture, weapon technology and system research.

A strong engineering manager to deliver mechanical design capability that meets the needs of the business.
The Head of ME will be part of a new management team responsible for driving the engineering and technology vision and strategy to align with the business vision.
The candidate will be expected to act as a change catalyst within the business driving functional and hence business excellence for mechanical engineering.
The Head of Mechanical Engineering will have total responsibility for the functional management of the mechanical engineering resource, process and quality of work produced within the specified functional area.

Work as key member of the core engineering leadership team.

This team is responsible for:-
Delivering compliant solutions to the customers on time and in budget, whilst safeguarding the future.
Development and execution of the engineering plans for all phases of the lifecycles.
Chairing project lifecycle reviews.
Managing the staff development and appraisal process along side the engineering and quality functional managers.
Undertaking the day to day management of your team.
Managing the generation and vetting of engineering estimates.
Management of the engineering content of sub-contracts.
Ensuring that the design and development tasks are undertaken using defined and agreed standards and methodologies. Including the use of structured tools.
Proactive implementation of process improvement initiatives to deliver opportunities to the business.
Work with the business and functional team to plan and deliver the future technology requirements for the business.
Work with the Head of Technology, the Business Leaders and Business Development function to plan and deliver the future technology and techniques required for the business.
Refinement, institutionalisation and measurement of the engineering processes.
Establishing the function as a highly professional function, which is held in high esteem by internal/external customers and peers.

Essential Experience
Degree in Scientific or Engineering discipline - Chartered Engineer
Experience as Lead Mechanical Engineer on major projects

Competencies
A proactive team-builder who can motivate and lead by example.
A skilled manager who can anticipate problems and plan to mitigate them.
An able communicator in both verbal, written and presentational forms.


Successful applicants will be required to be security cleared prior to appointment.
