Overall Purpose of the Job:
To strategically direct procurement activities by commodity team, manage and develop the supply base, negotiate contracts with suppliers and supervise Buyers in operational procurement.
Principal Accountabilities:
Supporting the Supply Chain Manager with regular risk reviews of the supply chain against a pre-determined range of “key” suppliers. Thereafter, advise / implement mitigation plans, as appropriate.
Supervising and leading higher level Negotiation, Placing of Purchase Orders for the project, commodity or product line.
Supervising expediting activities where higher level involvement is required and communicating weekly expediting reports to the business.
Creating Procurement Plans and support project/product line execution. Focal point of contact for the project, commodity or product line. The primary supply chain focal point at higher level project/product line meetings.
Actively support Supply Chain Manager with existing supply agreement contracts and consignment stocks levels with the supply chain while negotiating the most competitive commercial package for the company.
Recording purchasing performance for the commodity team and providing necessary reports to the Supply Chain Manager
Responsible for supervising and managing a group of Buyers including preparing objectives and performance review. Provide leadership and guidance for the respective commodity team ensuring Supply Chain processes are adhered to buy buying team.
Responsible for continually working with “key” suppliers to ensure clear scope definition and cost reduction programs.
Conduct supplier business review meetings and assist with supplier assessment in conjunction with the Supplier Approval Process.
When required, deputise for the Supply Chain Manager with full authority to manage the supply chain function in their absence. Provide support / cover to Team Leader for other commodity team as required.
Job Context and Main Activities:
Regular supplier visits locally, nationally and occasionally abroad. Ability to work largely unsupervised, motivate and manage subordinates and take initiative to resolve issues by communicating with colleagues and suppliers.
Job Challenges:
Ability to interface effectively and negotiate in difficult situations with suppliers and internal customers. Needs to be persistent to obtain information from some suppliers and colleagues from other departments. Supervising and coaching staff – requires strong leadership skills.
