JOB TITLE:
Buyer (Office & Stationary)
THE COMPANY & PURPOSE OF ROLE
A market leading and well recognised brand name, this retailer has fast become one of the industries most respected companies both in regards to reach in terms of market share but also people and career development.
Expanding their Buying department this role will determine the customer offer and manage the trading activities and supplier relationships for the Office and Stationary categories, to deliver against financial/sales targets and to ensure operational performance indicators are met. To build and construct tactical day to day offer and promotional campaigns.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
- Drive, review and develop product strategy in terms of supply base, customer base, product range, price and key trends.
- Negotiate with suppliers to obtain best conditions for the business in terms of product prices and trading agreements.
- Review product range, in conjunction with the Marketing team, for promotion activity that will best match channel, brand and category image in terms of seasonality, objectives and stock levels. Provide accurate forecast and evaluation reports on all promotional activity.
- Constantly review supply base and negotiate with suppliers to obtain working efficiencies and better terms and conditions and provide an effective supplier working relationship.
- To assist with the development of Assistant Buyers in order to maintain a stable, motivated and knowledge / experience rich team.
EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED FOR THE ROLE
- Preferably educated to graduate level or equivalent.
- Preferably a number of years experience of working within a Buying or Product function at Assistant Buyer level, in retail or mail order environment. Experience of the retail trade or a keen interest in product area is essential and an awareness of the commercial market place.
- Experience of marketing activity, either through direct responsibility or through previous close working relationships preferred.
- High level of numeracy, financial astuteness and analytical skills, including PC literacy, data interpretation and strong excel skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including presentation and strong influencing skills.
