JOB TITLE:
Category Manager (Toys)
THE COMPANY & PURPOSE OF ROLE
A market leading and well recognised brand name, this retailer has fast become one of the industries most respected companies both in regards to reach in terms of market share but also people and career development.
Expanding their Category Lead department this role will implement the product category strategy in terms of source, supply base, range, team and process development in order to achieve maximum profitability and growth and to ensure financial/sales targets and operational performance indicators are met.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
- To implement appropriate product strategy in terms of product, brand, processes, succession planning and resource in line with the company and Product strategy setting a top line view for the category with a 6-18 month outlook.
- To monitor range strategy for commercial success and fit with customer base and company branding.
- To ensure the management of key market trends and financial KPI’s in order to deliver against the KPI structure.
- To drive the product strategy agenda through the team and supply base.
- To participate in strategic product delivery for the category developing long term offers.
- To lead major terms negotiations with key suppliers.
- To provide direction, support, coaching and development opportunities for the buying team.
EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED FOR THE ROLE
- Preferably educated to graduate level or equivalent.
- Preferably a number of years experience of working within a Buying or Product function at Buyer or Senior level, in retail or mail order environment. Experience of the toys trade and market is essential and an awareness of the commercial market place.
- Evidence of marketing activity, either through direct responsibility or through previous close working relationships preferred.
- High level of numeracy, financial astuteness and analytical skills, including PC literacy, data interpretation and strong excel skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including presentation and strong influencing skills.
