Job Title: Designer - Womenswear
Salary: Up to £32,000 dependant on experience
A leading retailer, based in West Yorkshire, are currently seeking an experienced Womenswear Designer to join their team.
The Role:
Reporting to the Head Designer the role will involve the execution of specific design briefs in a creative and commercial manner whilst adhering to; and developing the brand identity in line with the Company/Gender/Departmental Strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver a continuous flow of cads to meet specific briefs
Clear understanding of sales performance (best and worst sellers) of existing styles within the business
Create designs with a clear understanding of the pricing architecture of the relevant brand
Present tougher research of the market, high street and niche retailers, trend sites, trade fairs and catwalks to develop the departments strategy
Identify new opportunities at style and colour level relevant to the departmental strategy
Demonstrate a clear understanding of garment construction, printing and finishing techniques to ensure relevant design packs
Develop designs to create a well balanced and commercial range
Plan and manage time to meet key deadlines
Provide detailed spec sheets directly to our suppliers with all relevant information to ensure quick and correct sampling and production
Maintain the design archive for reference by the buying department
From time to time visit factories to put development packs in to work and build supplier relationships
Build a clear understanding of supplier's abilities and assist the buyer in the selection of specific factories
Manage the performance of the team, setting objectives, giving regular feedback and addressing poor performance
Provide training and development to staff and coach staff in core technical and managerial skills
Ensure effective communication at all levels, to include communicating the Company/Divisional/Departmental strategy in addition to operational priorities
Encouraging an environment of open communication within the team and the building of effective cross functional relationships Technical Skills / Experience:
System skills to include Illustrator and Photoshop
Illustration and graphic abilities
Garment make up and construction knowledge
Manufacturing processes and fabric types
Quality management (to ensure garments are executed correctly)
A good knowledge on graphics
Experience working directly with factories Personal Attributes:
