CV-Library Watchdog Tips
We have come up with a number of tips to help you get the best response from your CV Watchdogs. Here are some common mistakes made when setting up a Watchdog and what we recommend to improve the response.
Common Mistake
If you are looking for a “software programmer” and select 'Match Jobtitle only' you will miss out on candidates that might be in this current role but have selected something else as their job title.
Solution
De-select the 'search job title only field' and set the minimum match to either 0% or 25%.
Common Mistake
Not using Boolean search technology whilst setting up keyword search terms - e.g., pe teacher.
To find out more about using the Boolean Method visit our CV Database Searching Tips page.
Solution
This will return CVs containing anything with pe in including words like expert and experience. This will bring back irrelevant CVs, so by entering the criteria in quotes it will just bring back CVs with the included term “pe teacher” - e.g., “pe teacher”.
General Tips
If you tick Match job title only then leave the Minimum Match percentage at 0%.
Make sure you create a memorable reference for your Watchdog so that you know what area the CVs are coming through for.
Instead of setting up multiple keywords for the same position, you can specify various skills in the keyword field and separate them with an OR.
Using the industries can help to make the watchdogs more specific but putting the keywords alone in the watchdog facility (with all industries) is still effective.
