Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
📍 Birmingham (Hybrid)
💰 Up to £55,000 + Pension + Flexible Working

I'm working with an established and growing engineering business that supports global OEMs across construction equipment, trucks, agriculture, and wider industrial markets. With a strong international presence (UK, USA, Germany, Sweden, India, China), they're continuing to invest in their UK engineering capability.
They're now looking to bring in a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to support a pipeline of innovative projects-particularly within engine ancillaries and emerging e-pump technologies.
The Role
As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you'll play a key part in both concept and detailed design, working closely with a collaborative engineering team and engaging with customers and suppliers.
Key responsibilities:
- Design and development of engine ancillaries (oil, water & fuel pumps)
- Concept and detailed design of e-pumps for data centre applications
- First-principles design and problem-solving across new product development
- Create 3D CAD models and detailed engineering drawings
- Ensure designs are optimised for manufacture (DFM focus)
- Support DFMEA activities and engineering validation
- Work closely with the Chief Engineer and cross-functional teams to resolve design challenges
- Produce technical reports and documentation
- Liaise with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders
What They're Looking For
Essential:
- Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering (or similar)
- Minimum 5 years' industry experience in a design-focused role
- Strong 3D CAD skills (ideally Creo)
- Experience designing with metals and plastics
- Solid understanding of GD&T
- Experience with DFMEA and Design for Manufacture (DFM)
- Background working on electromechanical products
Desirable:
- Experience with rotating components (bearings, seals, gears, pulleys)
- Exposure to concept design and new product development
