SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Aston, B6
Pay Rate: £110 - £120 per day
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Monday - Friday, long-term temp to perm.
Long Term Futures are recruiting for a confident and adaptable KS1 Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Aston, Birmingham. This varied role will involve a mixture of PPA cover, delivering targeted phonics interventions, and supporting pupils in group settings with special educational needs across Key Stage 1.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working across different classrooms, has a strong understanding of phonics, and is passionate about supporting children with additional needs within a nurturing learning environment. The role would also suit an Early Career Teacher looking to build confidence, gain valuable classroom experience across KS1, and further develop their behaviour management, intervention and SEN support skills within a supportive school setting.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide classroom support across KS1 during PPA cover sessions
  • Deliver small group phonics interventions to support early reading development
  • Support pupils with SEN, including ASD, ADHD and SEMH
  • Adapt learning activities to meet individual learning needs
  • Support pupils' engagement, confidence and emotional wellbeing
  • Assist with classroom routines, behaviour management and transitions
  • Work closely with teachers and the SENCO to ensure consistent support

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or relevant experience)
  • Experience working within KS1/EYFS and an understanding of the KS1 curriculum
  • Strong understanding of phonics schemes such as Read Write Inc or Letters & Sounds
  • Previous experience supporting pupils with SEN
  • Confident leading small groups and covering classes where required
  • Positive, flexible and proactive attitude
  • Strong behaviour management and communication skills
